Odessa, 25 AUGUST 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie -- August 24 in the port of Odessa was held the official opening ceremony of the regatta «Cup of the Black Sea – 2016», the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, on August 25, by the press service of the Odessa Sea Port.

According to the press service, August 25 at the port of Odessa was held the official opening ceremony of the most prestigious sailing regatta of the year — the All-Ukrainian open regatta of cruiser yachts «Cup of the Black Sea – 2016». It is attended by the crews from Kiev, Odessa, Dnepr, Kherson, Nikolaev, Yuzhny, etc. There are five racing days scheduled: from 24 to 28 August. Races are held in the North-Western part of the Black sea and in the waters of the Gulf of Odessa.

After the ceremony, the yacht parties with a fair wind, passed over the waters of the port and through the Western gate of the port out to sea to the start of the first race.

Traditionally, the regatta «Cup of the Black Sea» dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine.

REFERENCE: The Regatta «Cup of the Black Sea» traces its history since 1973. Then for the first time on the initiative of the Odessa sailors it carried out a large cruising sailing regatta, which ran routes from Odessa to Zmeiny (Serpent) Island and the port of Poti.

Regatta immediately attracted a lot of participants and has become the most representative and popular cruiser regatta in the Black Sea. In this format, the Black Sea Cup lasted until 1988, and during that time it has grown several generations of sailors of the high seas, the riders and captains of cruising yachts. In the best years the regatta collected more than 120 pennants.
