Odessa, 03 DECEMBER 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie — Experts of USPA formed the concept of creation of hub for offshore transshipment on the basis of the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky sea port, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, December 03, in the press-service of the SE «Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority».

For this, negotiations were held with a large company-manufacturer and exporter of agricultural crops in relation to the handling of additional cargo flows through the Belgorod- Dnestrovsky port. The project also aims to bring the waters of Illichevsk and Odessa ports.

USPA is the coordinator of this project, which involves all stakeholders. In the course of the project, the port will create an additional raid anchorage and transshipment volumes could exceed 1 million tons per year.

Thanks to the project, with little actual depths, Belgorod- Dnestrovsky port will be able to use their competitive pricing advantage and make maximum use of the waterfront. Will preserve jobs and social security of port workers, as well as increase income from port fees.

The company interested in the development of the port, has its specialized barges, adapted to the geographical features of the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky port, and at the moment, conducting active negotiations regarding the organization of the logistic chain. In particular, on the first phase of the project, the goods will be delivered to Belgorod- Dnestrovsky port by rail, handled by one of the port operators, and then transported by barge to anchorages in Odessa and Illichevsk sea ports. At the second stage in the chain will be included roadstead anchorage of Belgorod- Dnestrovsky port.

The press service reminded that the peculiarities of the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky seaport has always been low natural depth (2.5 m) and small depth at the underwater dump sites located in the Dniester estuary along the crest of the approach channel. Also the location of the channel among the shallow waters of the estuary leads to intense sediment accumulating as the natural runoff of the Dniester river, and movement of ground masses of sediments due to storm events.

Therefore, the specialists had the task to ensure the stable operation and development of the port with regard to these natural features. The creation of the raid port hub allows you to use the anchorage not only for the goods processed in the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky port, but also to traffic from other ports of Odessa and Nikolaev region.
