Dry red wine Shabo “Saperavi Reserve” has won the silver medal at the XII MUNDUS VINI Great International Wine Award in Germany. The XII MUNDUS VINI Great International Wine Award was held in Neustadt, Germany, the press service reported. More than one thousand companies from around the world presented 6 thousand 250 samples of wine products that were professionally tested by more than 300 members of the jury ― the leading experts of wine from 46 countries.

The rules of testing the wines presented for the contest meet high standards of wine culture and winemaking set by Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin, Paris. It is important that the Mundus Vini awards have been officially recognized by the European Union as an international symbol of quality. More than once, Ukrainian trademarks were making unavailing attempts to take part in such a prestigious competition. However, only this year, based on a strict multi-stage selection, Shabo has become the first Ukrainian company to be the winner. The company introduced 8 samples for the review of the distinguished members of the jury.

The following wines have been presented to participate in the competition: still wine “Merlot Shabo Classic”, still wine “Rose Shabo Classic”, vintage still wine “Cabernet Reserve Shabo”, vintage still wine “Chardonnay Reserve Shabo”, vintage sparkling wine “Extra Brut Shabo Classic”, vintage sparkling wine “Brut Shabo Classic”, vintage sparkling wine “Rose Brut Shabo Classic”, “Saperavi Reserve Shabo”.

Most of the presented range of wines received high marks (77 to 85 points on a 100-point scale, which is the bronze), while “Saperavi Reserve Shabo” was awarded 87 points and received the Mundus Vini silver medal. From now on, this wine is considered to feature European quality mark.

The jury, having awarded Shabo the silver, in their protocols highly appreciated its harmony and balanced acidity, spicy notes of red berries and herbal taste. The winning wine, among other best wines of the contest, was recommended for participation in another prestigious wine-sampling contest ― FHC Shanghai, taking place 14―16 November, 2012, in Shanghai, China. Thus, in a very short while, Ukrainian wine will be representing the country at the fourth this year competent international forum. In May 2012, Shabo became the winner of 5 quality medals at the same time at two high-class wine-sampling contests ― International Wine Challenge and Decanter World Wine Awards, UK.
