Odessa, 27 JULY 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie -- Yesterday, on July 26, at the port of Odessa was held a cross-sectoral workshop, on which were summed up the results of grain export in the 2015/2016 marketing year (MY) and discussed the problems of grain export in the coming season, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

Agency was informed today, on July 27, by the press service of the Odessa Sea port administration.

As noted in the press service, July 26 concert-exhibition hall of Odessa sea port traditionally welcomed the participants of the intersectoral workshop, which summarized the results of grain exports in the last 2015/2016 MY and discussed the problems of grain export in the coming season. The organizers of the meeting, which is commonly called «Grain Forum», were the Ukrainian Grain Association and PJSC «Ukrzaliznytsia». Among the participants are the representatives of companies-grain traders, managers of port grain terminals, shipping companies, journalists of specialized publications.

According to the Deputy Director of Department of strategic and economic development of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food Yaroslav Cherevichny, in 2015/2016 MY was recorded the grain harvest of 71 million tons, the highest harvest in all history of independent Ukraine and a record amount of 39.5 million tons was shipped for export. This year’s crop is projected at 61 million tons, and for 2016/2017 MY is projected 68.4 million tons, export capacities are 38.7 million tons.

«Thus, in the future, the share of Ukraine on the world grain market will be 11% against 12% in 2015», he said.

The meeting noted that record grain export was achieved through the cooperation of marine terminals, railways, road transport. PJSC «Ukrzaliznytsia» made the lion's share of grain deliveries. Head of Department traffic management Vitaly Aleynik said that for 6 months of 2016 shipped 229,2 thousand grain-carriers (14.8 million tons), which is 1.2 million more than at the same period in 2015. Daily loaded 1 260 grain carriers.

«During the same period, exported through the ports 11.4 million tons of grain that on 110 thousand tons more than in January-June 2015. Most of all grain processed the port of Odessa (26%), followed by Illichevsk (25%), Nikolaev (22%), TIS (16.5 %)»,— said Vladimir Aleynik.

In addition, the official of «Ukrzaliznytsia» focused on the problem of shortage of grain carriers, and therefore the problem of the acceleration of their turnover.

First Deputy Head of Administration of the port of Odessa Ruslan Sahautdinov noted that, according to the development strategy, along with grain, the port authorities are engaged in the development of container facilities and infrastructure.

«In the port of Odessa there are several projects dealing with grain cargoes. The most significant terminal on Androsovsky pier (pier 1-s and elevator of 240 thousand tons storage), implemented jointly by the port authority and the company «Brooklyn-Kiev». Despite the fact that the object is not delivered as a holistic complex, since the launch of the first bursts through the elevator already handled 3.3 mln tons of grain. Port Grain Terminal «Olimpex Coupe» continues to evolve: on the third berth mounted the ship-loading machine, built the second station of unloading vehicles. Now the administration of the company started the construction of the fourth stage, which will increase the possibility of simultaneous storage from 125 thousand tons to 185 thousand tons. At the implementation stage there is project of grain terminal in the rear of the 7th dock with an elevator capacity of 75 thousand tons of simultaneous storage, which should be built by the Port Authority and «MetalsUkraine». Now the design stage completed, roughly at the end of the year will begin reconstruction of the 7th berth (length — 350 m). The company «Novotekh terminal» has decided to build an elevator with a capacity of up to 100 thousand tons. Other grains port facilities develop as well, together with the station «Odessa-port» is solved a question about the development of the station fleet»,— said the First Deputy Head of the Port Authority.

President of the Ukrainian Grain Association Vladimir Klimenko noted that Ukraine has great potential in grain production and could export up to 50 million tons and not 39.5 million tons only.

«In Ukraine the yield of corn and soybeans is 2 times less than in the US, and wheat and barley — 2 times less than in France. If in the same area we would have implemented the advanced technologies of cultivation of agricultural crops, the result could gather 120 million tons of grain», he said.

The meeting also discussed issues of tariff policy, strengthening of the dimension-weight control of vehicles by Ministry of infrastructure, shortage of grain carriers and other problems.
