On September 25th the Executive committee of Odessa city council endorsed the increase of rates for water supply and drainage services. The decision about rates increase come into force from November 1st.

According to the words of the deputy director in economics of the “Infoxvodokanal” subsidiary of Co Ltd “Infox” Anatoliy Mikhailistiy the present rates level is not enough to cover expenses of the present activity of the enterprise. For example, hot weather in summer led to the active growth of algae in the Dniester. For their neutralization 3.5 mln UAH were spent during the water intake. The flash flood in autumn also led to the enterprise’s losses which made more than 1 mln UAH. All these expenses were not taken into account of the rates. Besides, electricity prices, salary, taxes, rental and so on are rising.

A. Mikhailistiy noted that for the covering of the current enterprise activity there were figured new economically grounded rates. During their calculation water loss in 37.64% was built into. New rates for water supply and drainage services are being introduced from November 1st and will make almost twice as much as the previous ones.

“The rates have been increased in many regional centers already. After the increase we will rank the 9th in water supply services rates, and the 13th in drainage services rates”, the deputy director noted.

“This is the situation when any decision is bad. We don’t feel like increasing the rates, but we cannot but do it. We must do something in such a way that the unprotected strata of population would be given help. And those who can pay will pay the overall cost”, the mayor Eduard Gurvits noted.

B. Mikhailovskiy added that new rates were preliminarily approved by the prices inspectorate.
