According to the information of the Information department in the course of the National conference of introduction of European week of local democracy held yesterday, on November 11th, in Kiev Odessa city was awarded with the personalized commemorative medal of Europe Council.

Alongside with another three cities of the continent – Madrid, Brussels and Varna – Odessa was defined by Europe Council as a pilot city of European week of local democracy, the peak of events of which fell on the period from October 13th to 19th of this year.

Experience of Odessa presented by the secretary of the city council Aleksandr Prokopenko, the head of the organizing committee in holding the Week in Odessa, was recognized as worth attention and replication in other cities of our country by the participants of the National conference in Kiev.

“Thus Europe Council highly estimated achievements of Odessa in the creation of opportunities for the citizens to influence decisions made by authorities on the local level directly. Odessa is the first city on the territory of former USSR that took part in the holding of European week of local democracy” it was noted in the Department.
