2 kilometer-long oil patch on the Danube’s surface

ODESA, JANUARY, 19TH, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE, On Friday, January 16th, 2009 an oil patch approximately 2 kilometer-long was found on the surface of the Danube in the area of Kiliya, “Context-Prichernomorie” correspondent reports.

Lidia Yankovskaya, Public relations officer, Administration for Emergency Situations and Protection of the Citizens from the Consequences of Chernobyl Disaster of Ukraine informed the agency about it today, on January, 19th, 2009.

According to Mrs. Yankovskaya, on January, 16th, at 13:30 M/V “Brothers 7” (flag of Russia) reported there to be an oil patch approximately 2 kilometer-long on the Danube.

As it became clear later, on the 56th km of the Danube river there took place a reload of oil from the tanker “Vasiliy Chapayev” (Moldova) to “Karbonis” (Netherlands).

At 18:45 special commission of State Border Guards, Customs officers, State Ecological Service and a doctor arrived there on board a cutter to examine the pitch.

An investigation is going on.
