ODESSA, OCTOBER, 14TH, 2008, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Tomorrow on October 15th at 9 am the opening of V International conference “Sea mammals of Holarctic” is held in Odessa, IA “Context-Prichernomorie” correspondent reports.

This was reported to the agency today, on October 14th, in the Information Department of Odessa city council.

According to the information of the Department, V International conference “Sea mammals of Holarctic” devoted to all-round studying of state of populations, ecology, physiology, use, protection, methods of research of sea mammals (cetaceans, pinnipeds, polar bears etc.) that inhabit the Northern hemisphere will be prolonged till October 18th.

About 170 specialists from Ukraine, Russia, USA, Japan, Norway, Croatia, Great Britain, Lithuania and South Africa will take part in the conference work.

Also the work conference will involve: GE “Odessa center of Southern research institution of sea fishing sector and oceanography”, the State pedagogical university by K. G. Ushinsky, Odessa national university by I. I. Mechnikov, Odessa branch of Institute of biology of southern seas of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine.

INQUIRY: Holarctic (gr.) is one of floristic and zoogeographical areas of the land; it occupies the considerable part of Northern hemisphere.
