Presidium of the European Federation of Inland Ports holds an away sitting in Mykolaiv

MYKOLAIV, APRIL, 2nd, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Presidium of the European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP) held their away sitting in Mykolaiv, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press-service of Mykolaiv Merchant Sea Port informed the agency about it today, 2 April.

EFIP includes the ports of over 20 European countries. Their aim is to represent the interests of the inside ports in the Europarliament.

The Presidium includes Heads of the ports of Italy, Germany, Belgium. The presidium was headed by Willy Robijns.

On behalf of Ukraine, the participants were Head of river and sea ports, shipping companies and representative of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The participants discussed the state and perspectives of Ukrainian inland ports’ development and visited Mykolaiv Merchant Sea Port.

INFORMATION: EFIP (European Federation of Inland Ports) was founded in 1994 and is the official voice of 200 inland ports in 18 countries of the EU and Candidate Countries as well as Switzerland and Croatia. Inland ports are contributing actively to attaining and maintaining a long-term sustainable mobility and favouring in particular a more efficient integration of various modes in the transport chain. They are inland load centres offering networking opportunities between different modes such as road, rail and inland shipping, including short-sea shipping in some major inland ports.
