Production of flour and cereals in Mykolaiv Oblast keeps going down

MYKOLAIV, ODESA, JUNE, 24th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Production level of flour and cereals in Mykolaiv Oblast keeps going down, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it today, 24 June at the State Committee of Statistics in Mykolaiv Oblast.

Thus, in January-May, 2009 production of rusks, biscuits, pies and pastry decreased by 43,4 percent as compared with the same period in 2008. This is determined by significant cuts in production of sweet biscuits and wafers by 47, 5 percent; bread crisps, rusks, toast bread and other crisps – by 26,6 percent; spice cakes and other products of the kind – by 26,2 percent.

Production of flour and cereals faced worsening of reduction from 9,6 percent in January-April 2009 to 20 percent in January-May. In particular production of shelled polished peas decreased significantly – by 70,4 percent, other cereals and wheat – by 43,2 percent, fine-ground barley – by 31,7 percent, wheat flour – by 21,5 percent. At the same time production of maize increased by 25 percent, pearl barley – by 40 percent, millet – three times, rye flour – 3,8 times.

Production of bread was not able to achieve last-year level, reduction making 9 percent, mostly at the expense of wheat brad reduction by 18,5 percent, other bakery – by 14,6 percent, rye-wheat and wheat-rye bread – by 5,4 percent and buns – by 0,8 percent.
