Cargo operations in Illichivsk Port exceeds 8 million tons

ODESA, JULY, 8th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – In the first six months cargo operations in Illichivsk Merchant Sea Port made 8 million 273 thousand tons, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it today, 8 July at the press-service of the port.

According to the press-service, the amount of cargo operations in June this year made 1 million 108 thousand tons. As compared with the same period last year the amount of cargo operations fell by 28,1 percent. The amount of general cargo operations fell by 45,3 percent. Bulk cargo operations fell by 16,9 percent. Liquid cargoes went 86,6 percent up.

The best growth tempo as compared with the same period in 2008 was observed in operating oil (+303,6 percent). The most significant reduction – in automobile equipment: in June – 97,1 percent, in the first six months – 82,7 percent. Container operations reduced by 70,4 percent in June and by 67,7 percent in six months.

INFORMATION: Illichivsk Merchant Sea Port is one of the ‘youngest’ on the Black Sea. The Port was erected in the Soviet period in 1960s mainly for sea trade with socialistic countries. It has railway and vehicle approaches connected with the country’s mains. There are several operating ferry-crossings: Illichivsk–Varna (Bulgary), Illichivsk–Poti and Illichivsk – Batumi (Georgia). Cargo operation complexes of the Port consisting of 28 berths having total length 5 thousand 500 metres are equipped with modern cargo-operating machinery.
