ODESA, AUGUST, 13th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – The cargo turnover at Odesa Railway fell 25 percent in January-June 2009 as compared to the same period of 2008, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.
Eudeniy Tkachenko, Chief of Local Passenger Shipments Department stated it today, 13 August during a press-conference.
According to Mr. Tkachenko, in 2009 due to the economic situation on the country the income from the Odesa Railway Company’s shipments that had always been profitable and covering the losses from passenger transportations, including local transportations, fell significantly.
“The cargo turnover went 25 percent down as compared to the same period in 2008, i.d. our company lost a quarter of cargoes.
The amount of transit transportations, for instance going from Donetsk through Odesa railway to the north and west of Ukraine, and transportation of imported cargoes went 30 percent down. All in all we transport 24,5 percent less cargoes than during the same period in 2008», — Mr. Tkachenko said.
