ODESA, AUGUST, 25th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Ex-President of the National Bank of Ukraine Sergey Tigipko believes Ukraine has got the best transit potential in Europe, though nobody develops it, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Mr. Tigipko has said that today 25 August during the round table on “How to Untie the Sea Transport Knot? Ways of Overcoming the Crisis in Cargo Shipments”.

“European experts evaluate Ukraine’s transit potential as the best in Europe. There is no country better than we are in Europe concerning transit potential. Thus today we have all premises to be the best in Europe. In addition we have quite a strong infrastructure, that we inherited from the Soviet Union. And this is the most powerful infrastructure: deepwater ports, powerful and developed railway network. Yes we do have some problems with automobiles, but that could be solved”, — Mr. Tigipko stated.

“Ukraine has also got a large investment-involving potential. Both domestic and foreign investors want us. We see the Russian investors want us, we see European investors want us who realize this is an economically interesting theme. It is also really important for Ukraine the transit question makes a good economic locomotive pulling behind it many economic sectors. It’s not only transport – here come service, restaurants, hotels, petrol stations, repair base, warehouses. Unfortunately no one wants to develop it all so far”, — he said.
