Oleksandr Bortnik of Mykoaliv wins Chess European Championship in Baku, Georgia

MYKOLAIV, SEPTEMBER 30th, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Oleksandr Bortnik of Mykoaliv has become champion of the Chess European Championship in Baku, Georgia, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it today 30 September at the press service of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.

The championship was being held in Baku, Georgia, through September 19—29.

More then 700 chess-players from 34 countries of the world participated in the event. Ukraine was represented by 38 young chess-players. In total they won seven medals.

Oleksandr Bortnik won the first prize, having got 7.5 points in 9 games. The sportsman of Mykolaiv didn’t lose a single game — he beat his rivals of the same age from Georgia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, France, and Russia. However games vs. Azerbaijan, Oland and Turkey ended in a draw.

Governor of Mykolaiv Oblast KNikolay Kruglov congratulated the young champion personally.
