MYKOLAIV, NOVEMBER 17th, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Minister of Defence Mykhailo Yezhel says he advocates the review of the Navy Corvette Construction Programme, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.
Mr Yezhel stated it in his interview to the news paper “Golos Ukrainy” (Voice of Ukraine) published yesterday, 16 November.
The Minister said this programme has to be reviewd as it was created according to the NATO standards, to match the weapons available in NATO member countries, it is very money-losing. Thus, a NATO model of corvette costs over UAH 8.5 billion, but the construction expenses have been reduced due to the parts made in Russia and other countries.
As the Context-Prichernomorie reported previously, the tender commission of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine announced State Joint Stock Company Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard had won the tender competition for building new corvettes for Ukrainian Government.
