Submarine archaeologists get Russian national award

ODESA, FEBRUARY 24th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Navarex Diving Club, Odesa, has won Underwater World Russian National Award, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Ms Ekaterina Kurakina, WWF International PR manager, has informed the agency about it today, 24 February.

According toMs Kurakina, on February 17, the opening day of the fifth annual Moscow International Festival «Golden Dolphin», giving ceremony of the Russian National Prize «Underwater World» was held, — The Confederation of Underwater Activities of Russia notes that the premium services in various sectors of the underwater case. Award nominees are Russian scientists, sportsmen, diver doctors, writers, instructors, scuba diving, diving instructors, leaders of clubs, dive centres, divers, archaeologists, businessmen and public figures.

As noted by the manager, the main intrigue of the ceremony of the Underwater World 2011 «waged by Valdis Pelsh and Jan Churikova, was that won the award for» Hidden Expedition «became the Odessa Club of Underwater Archaeology» Navareks. So members of the jury noted the high qualification of Ukrainian researchers in conducting deep sea underwater archaeological work in the waters of Snake Island. During these years, was acquired vast experience and constantly improving equipment allows underwater research at the level of modern international scientific standards. At a time when all sides rush to claim «black» archeologists, it is gratifying to see that is still alive «white» underwater archeology. «Navareks conducts work in close cooperation and on the instructions of the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Items raised from the seabed during the expeditions, revolving funds Odesa Archaeological Museum (it's even created a separate booth, fully stocked finds the club). Considerable help in the organization of work have an underwater archaeologists also located on the Snake Diving centre «Nereus» and the administration of the island.
