ODESA, APRIL 11th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — In 2010, the amount of drugs confiscated at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border was six times lower than in 2009, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

These data have been published today, 11 April, furing the sitting of the EUBAM Advisory Council.

In 2010, the services of both the countries, operating at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, confiscated 6.7 kg of drugs, which is 6 times as little as in 2009. From all the attempts to smuggles drugs through the border they were mostly (91 per cent) easy drugs like marijuana, hashish and poppy straw, in nine per cent of cases they were heavy drugs — heroin, cocaine and opium.

INFORMATION: The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) was launched on 30 November 2005 at the joint request of the Presidents of the Republic Moldova and Ukraine. EUBAM is an EU mission fully funded by the European Union. It is an advisory, technical body. It has no executive powers. The Mission aims to make a sustainable contribution to the delivery of good quality border and customs services to the citizens and companies of Moldova and Ukraine to facilitate contacts and trade.
