The EU adopts a new Danube Regional Development Strategy
10:54 / 15.04.2011

ODESA, APRIL 15th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — European Union countries have adopted a new Danube Regional Development Strategy, which is to be adopted by the European Parliament, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Deutsche Welle reported about it with reference to the FA Minister of Hungary Mr János Martonyi, currently presiding at the EU.

According to the minister, “the strategy will cover 14 countries, where the Danube is running. These are both EU members and the neighbours — such as Ukraine. The Strtegy’s main task is to coordinate projects in the sphere of transport, tourism, infrastructure and environment, financed from the EU budget. Coordinating countries have been chosen for each branch. For instance, Slovakia and Hungary will control the quality of water, Germany and Croatia — for preservation of the flora and fauna, Austria and Romania — for improvement of waterways, Slovenia and Serbia — for railway and air lines and road construction. Ukraine got interested in the last part.”

“8—10 May, Budapest will host a meeting of the coordinating countries, however the document will not acquire legal force till June 2011. It is exactly when it is to be adopted by the EU Parliament”, the official added.
