Mykolaiv honours the memory of those who died in Chornobol disaster

MYKOLAIV, APRIL 27th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Yesterday 26 April, the City of Mykolaiv honoured the memory of those who died in Chornobol disaster 25 years ago, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The city and regional authorities, representatives of non-governmental organizations and citizens gathered near the monument to the Mourning Angel of Chornobyl.

After the requiem in the memory of the deceased, the local polititians addressed the citizens.

Vice Governor Gennadii Nikolenko, on behalf of the Governor Nikolay Kroglov, expressed his gratitude to those who “heroically and selflessly were sacrificing their lives their lives and health in order to liquidate the consiquences of the disaster.”

The chair of the Regional Council Igor Dyatlov drew the attention of people to the fact that “a few days back President Yanukovich not simply raised the problem of Chornobyl at an international conference, not simply demonstrated and proved it’s not the problem of Ukrainian people solely but of the entire world community.

Mykolaiv Mayor Volodymyr Chaika in his speech said, the city authorities in cooperation with non-governmental organizatioins and the Union of Chornobyl Liquidators built a park and a monument to the victims of the disaster.
