MYKOLAIV, MAY 16th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — The Day of Europe has been held in Mykolaiv, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

In the morning, representatives of European youth were parading down the main street of the city — Soviet Street to celebrate the Europe Day. The parade was attended by the students of Mykolaiv universities. The march ended near the stage installed on the central square.

Among the guests there were Mykolaiv Mayor Vladimir Chaika and Governor Nikolay Kruglov, who stressed that Ukraine, despite the fact that it is not an EU member, has been celebrating Days of Europe since 2003.

The head of the Regional Council, Igor Diatlov, who addressed the guests and citizens first in English and then in Russian, said he hoped that the European town, operating in the city, will help eliminate all the barriers existing between countries.

Chairman of European Commission representative office in Ukraine ambassador Jose Manuel Pintu Teishera expressed his joy over the fact that the Europe Day was celebrated in Nikolaev. This, he says, testifies to Ukraine's European integration. He promised that he will soon sign an association agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
