Orlovka—Isaccea ferry project hampered due to absence of an international checkpoint
14:07 / 21.05.2011

ODESA, MAY 21st, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Orlovka—Isaccea ferry project is being hampered due to absence of an international checkpoint, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

This is stated in a Deputy Request, presented yesterday, 20 May, at a session of the Odesa Regional Council.

The Deputy Request was addressed to the chairman of the Odesa Regional Council Nikolai Pundik and chairman of Governor of Odesa Region Eduard Matviychuk.

“In 2011, tremendous work has been done to improve the economic and social conditions of the inhabitants of the Danube. One of the possibilities of further development of the region may be the ferry line Orlovka—Isaccea. Already today, there is an investor on behalf of Ukraine and Romania for the construction of the crossing. Further promotion of the project is hindered by the unresolved issue of the international checkpoint at the state border Orlovka—Isaccea”, the Deputy Request reads.

“Dear Eduard Leonidovich and Nikolay Vladimirovich, we are asking you to take the initiative to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine as to the adoption of intergovernmental agreements between the governments of Ukraine and Romania to change the status of the checkpoint with a simplified crossing point on the international border crossing”, it says.
