ODESA, SEPTEMBER 7th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Odesa Governor Eduard Matviychuk says the city will not be able to host Eurobasket 2015 unless it has a good palace of sports, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The official has stated today, 7 September, hosting his regular ‘breakfast with journalists’.

“The matter with the construction of the Palace of Sports in Odesa moves. In order to build something, you need documentation, so we assigned UAH six million for exactly this purpose. I hope that at the end of this year, the Cabinet will decide, and take under their patronage these events and it will be easier to get the money. We have applied — conditional application — for EuroBasket 2015 to be held in Odesa. Among team sports basketball rates second after football, so this is a very important event. And Odesa cannot win, and take part in it, if we do not have a worthy Palace of Sports to host a competition of the European level”, said the Governor.
