Astronomers from Europe and Asia discuss space exploration in Mykolaiv

MYKOLAIV, OCTOBER 1st, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Astronomers from Europe and Asia have discussed space exploration at a conference held in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of Mykolaiv City Executive Coomittee reported today, 1 October.

According to the press service, the astronomers gathered in Mykolaiv from 6 European and Asian countries — Ukraine, France, Serbia, Turkey, China and Russia in order to discuss issues of positional and photometric studies of near-Earth objects, astrometric stars and asteroids, the use of virtual technology in astronomy. In addition, they raised questions about the historical path and Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory. To do this, on September 27 in the regional centre hosted International Conference of MAO-190 Astronomy Research: from Near-Earth Space to the Galaxy. It was held in the Research Institute Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory and was timed to coincide with the 190th Anniversary of this institution.

The Conference lasted three days, during which more than 55 reports were heard. The event also included ameeting to develop international cooperation with representatives of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (China) and the Institute of Celestial Mechanics and Ephemeris calculation (France).

In total, the conference was attended by 43 scientists — 8 doctors and 20 candidates of sciences, as well as 15 young scientists.
