ODESA, NOVEMBER 9th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Odesa port has operated the largest ever container ship in its history, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of the port informed today, 9 November.

According to the press service, yesterday, 8 November, the container ship Tubul (length 300 m, width 46 m, capacity 8 thousand 63 TEU, flag of Liberia) called at the port of Odesa.

The new ship of the company Maersk (built 2011) was tugged into the harbour by three most powerful tug ships in service — Granite, Patriot and Bulat.

According to the chief dispatcher, SE OCSP, Ruslan Sakhautdinov, “operating the 300-meter container ship is a common practice for the Odesa port. In 2009, for example, three POST PANAMAX ships (length 304, width 40 m) Palena (304.12 m), Pucon (304.12 m) and Petrohue (304.14 m) visited the harbour. However, despite the large size, the capacity of these vessels did not exceed 6 thousand 500 TEU.

The press service noted that the ship Tubul is the first container ship operated by the port with a capacity of over 8 thousand TEU.

According to R. Sakhautdinov, “this impressive growth at the terminal is the result of the programme and technical measures taken by the port LLC Brooklyn-Kyiv to ensure the reception and processing vessels up to 300 m.
