The OSART Mission examines the South-Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant

MYKOLAIV, NOVEMBER 15th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― The OSART Mission has started examining the South-Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press centre of Energoatom informed today, 15 November.

According to the press centre, experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency will be verifying the operational safety of the first two nuclear units until Friday, November 18. It is the second IAEA mission. In compliance with the regulatory documents, it is mandatory. The main purpose of the experts’ examination is to make sure the proposals of previous international inspection have been implemented.

The main OSART mission was held from 2 to 9 November, 2009, at power units 1 and 2, under the Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation between Ukraine and the European Community.

It was performed in a limited volume, including the inspection of the operation in the following areas: management, organization and administration, operation, maintenance and repair, technical support, service experience, and radiation protection.

This mission was not the first for the power plant ― in 2006, a similar inspection was carried out at unit 3. In addition, in early 2009, the combined OSART post-mission at unit number 3, and expert assessment mission to operational safety, which was based on national self-assessment report NAEC Energoatom successfully passed at the site of the South-Ukrainian NPP.

To implement IAEA’s proposals to improve performance organizational and technical measures have been developed, their implementation has been completed. Their full implementation will streamline the management of operational safety station and unify it with an international practice and the best international standards.
