ODESA, DECEMBER 15th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Honorary President of the Union for Animal Protection Wolfgang Aple has informed Animal Welfare Centre will expand in 2012, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Honorary President of the German Union for Animal Protection Wolfgang Apel stated yesterday, 14 December during a press conference in Odesa.

“We want to grow and expand our Centre for Animal Welfare in Odesa. We will try all means to obtain financing in order to extend our work. For example, in the spring we are planning to start construction of a second Cat House because we believe that the overpopulation of stray cats cannot satisfy us. We are working on it and begin to address the problem of cats, we have examples where we collected them at various markets of Odesa and then their hosts were happy to take them back. In general, we believe that this is very good, and we will develop this work. And, working with cats, we just pursue with the intent to not only work with dogs, but with all the animals in the streets”, told the Honorary President of the Union.

“As far new owners for the animals from our centre are concerned, there were about only 10% of animals that passed through and they got a new family. That is, we transferred the animals themselves in the hands of new owners, or through the hands of friends of animals, but this does not mean that all animals are removed from us, remain homeless. We know that the city has a huge number of people who feed the animals, if necessary, then again, they are associated with us, if an animal needs help, and we come”, said W. Apel.
