ODESA, JANUARY 23rd, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — A 9-year-old girl has saved her 10-month-old sister in a fire that happened in Balta, Odes Region, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.
Information Centre, Chief Administration of the Ministry of Emergencies of Ukraine in Odesa Region, informed today, 23 January.
As noted in the Centre, a fire occurred in a residential house in Balta, in which there were two children — a 9-year-old girl and 10-month-old sister on January 20 at 16:00, while their mother and grandmother were away.
The children were in the house watching television when the elder girl heard a banging in the hallway and saw that the whole corridor was in smoke and flames. Luckily, she managed to hold her head and she grabbed her sister and ran to the window. She opened the window, took hold of the sister and jumped out. The girl told neighbours about the fire, they immediately called 101.
The fire was extinguished within 40 minutes.
The estimated cause of the fire is a short-circuit that occurred in the corridor as a result of overload — except the TV an oil heater was on all the time.
