MYKOLAIV, MARCH 12th, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Olga Kharlan of Mykolaiv wins the gold at the Stage of the Fencing World Cup, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

According to the press service, from the World Cup (women’s saber) Olga Kharlan came back with the gold award. In the semi-finals with a score of 15:6 she literally smashed the two times Olympic champion Mariel Zagunis (USA), and in the finals she beat Kim Ji Eon, Korea, without any problems.

In the team match the sabre fencers Olga Kharlan, Olena Khomrova, Galina Pundik and Olga Zhovnir won the bronze, losing in the semifinals in favour of the US team, and in a duel for third place they beat the Azerbaijani.

Chairman of the State Service for Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ravil Safiullin passed his best congratulations to the Ukrainian fencer on the occasion of the successful performance and wished her to win in the future.

The competition was held in Antalya (Turkey), from 8 to 11 March. Total number of participants who took part in the competition counted 128 athletes representing 35 countries.
