18:25 / 28.09.2012

ODESA, SEPTEMBER 28th, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Governor of Odesa region Eduard Matviychuk met the delegation of the OSCE observers to parliamentary elections in Ukraine 2012, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Odesa Regional State Administration’s press service reported today, 28 September.

According to the press service, international organization was represented by OSCE Election Observer Joseph Worrall, the project implementation of funds “New Media” and “Democratic Society ― East” official Paul Coste, a qualified specialist to the election Charles Shubridzh, the Carter Center of Democracy developing and mission «Canadem» representative Jacqueline Kimball.

The parties discussed the issues of cooperation and interaction between the authorities and international organizations observers during the elections, the possible violations by the participants of the electoral process, ways to avoid such situations, and guaranteeing the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.

Matviychuk stressed the main function of the regional government during the elections is to ensure free will of citizens and prevent any violations of the electoral rights of the citizens of Ukraine, both the opposition and pro-government parts of the candidates.

The Governor noted different political parties appeal to the chairman of the regional state administration with a request to contribute to the democratic electoral process in the region. None of these appeals is ignored. At the same time, there were no violations of the citizens’ electoral rights during this campaign in the region.

However, Mr Matviychuk mentioned he does not eliminate the possibility of trying to destabilize the political situation before the elections by the opposition.

My personal viewing the current opposition spends every effort not for preparing for the elections, but to destabilize the situation. They do it because the opposition understand the people support and approve the work of the party in power.

At the same time, the Governor noted in case of violations of any political party he will react strict on such situations.
