Odessa recognized to be the best city in Ukraine

ODESA, NOVEMBER 9th, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Odesa has won the All-Ukrainian Landscaping and Civil Order Keeping Contest, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Odesa City Council press service reported today, 9 November.

The Ukrainian government recognized Odesa and Kyiv to be the winners of the All-Ukrainian Landscaping and Civil Order Keeping Contest 2011 between the cities of over 500 000 inhabitants population.

71 populated localities of Ukraine have been competing in 6 nominations, considering the quantity of inhabitants.

Ukraine’s Regional Development, Building and Communal Housing Minister handed in the I Grade honorary Cups and Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers’ diplomas to the mayors of the winning cities.

“Odesa has gained the I place worthily, and the work having been done in 2011 is really worth attention and experience sharing. Generally, this is effective investment of the local funds into landscaping objects, and effective attraction of investment funds”, emphasized the Territories Landscaping and Communal Servicing Department Head Aleksandr Ignatenko.

Odesa City Mayor Oleksiy Kostusev is convinced that all the citizens of Odesa take credit for this award, “Odesa would have never won the first place, if not for the labor, unindifference and funds of hundreds and thousands of its citizens. More than a half of everything we’ve done has been carried out at the expense of the Maecenas, sponsors without a single penny taken from the municipal budget. It’s the first time we’ve won this prestigious award, but I hope and I am sure that it’s not the last”.
