ODESA, NOVEMBER 23rd, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Scientific Director of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Aleksandr Sushko has noted erosion of democratic institutions in the last two years has led to the fact Ukraine is losing the leading role in the Eastern Partnership, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The Director stated today, 23 November, during the public hearings “Ukraine’s European perspective after elections 2012”.

“The erosion of democratic institutions for the last two years has led t to the fact Ukraine is losing the leading role in the Eastern Partnership. One of the successful factors of European integration is the stability of democratic development, without which our advantages can not be fully realized. We begin to lag behind, because we have a degradation of social and political processes”, he noted.

“I still think Ukraine is the leader of the Eastern Partnership, because Ukraine has completed the negotiations on the Association Agreement the first, which Moldova is only considering. Ukraine signed the agreement on simplification of visa regime the first, and some countries are still working on it”, Head of the Committee on European Integration of the Verkhovna Rada and Director of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic cooperation Borys Tarasyuk added.
