ODESA, JUNE 18th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― A memorial plaque has been installed on the building of the former US Consulate today, 18 June, in Odesa, with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Ukraine John Tefft, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The plaque was set in Chaykovs’kogo Prov., 6, where the US Consulate was located from 1884 to 1891.

“In 1830, Odesa has already been famous port city, so the opening of the consulate in 1884 was necessary for the trade interests and for the protection of US sailors,” US Ambassador noted.
