Odesa athletes win 14 medals at the XXII Summer Deaflympics

ODESA, AUGUST 6th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Odesa athletes have won 14 medals at the XXII Summer Deaflympics, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The Department of Sports and Physical Training of Odesa Regional State Administration reported today, 6 August.

According to the information, XXII Summer Deaflympics were held in Bulgaria through 25 July — 4 August. Ukrainian team won 88 medals including 21 gold, 30 silver and 37 bronze medals. This is a new record. For the first years of independence Ukrainian team won over 20 gold medals.

In the team standings among 92 teams participating in the Deaflympics, Ukrainian team took second place, the first were the Russians (67 gold, 52 silver and 58 bronze medals).

The Office added that the athletes of the Odesa region received 4 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.

In the tournament of freestyle wrestling Sergiy Minchenko took a gold medal (120 kg), Fedor Karabiber took the second place (50-55 kg), the third was Andriy Kambur (60 kg).

In the Greco-Roman wrestling tournament Sergiy Minchenko was third (120 kg).

In the beach volleyball Anton Koshkarov and Mykola Tsapkalenko received bronze medals, in football Oleksandr Kara, Dmytro Senko and Volodymyr Valchuk won silver medals, in athletics Viktoria Landina was third (800 m) and won silver in the 4x400 m relay, Christina Ridosh and Tetiana Etienne got gold for the Ukrainian national team in the women's volleyball.

Oleksiy Koshkarov in the Unrainian national volleyball team became the champion of the XXII Summer Deaflympics.
