ONU becomes coordinator of Danube Partnership programmes

ODESA, FEBRUARY 28th, 2014, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Odesa National Mechnikov University has become the coordinator of educational and scientific programmes of Ukraine with the countries of the Danube region, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of ONU noted today, 28 February.

According to the press service, Odesa National Mechnikov University became the coordinator of educational and scientific programmes of Ukraine with the countries of the Danube region. This decision was taken during a rector’s meeting at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Together with ONU, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University will also coordinate the programme.

“As project coordinator, Odesa University will be able to give advices to other educational institutions, to gather and synthesize information, make suggestions to improve international cooperation,” rector of ONU Igor Koval noted.

The press service added that since 2012, 11 leading universities of Odesa, Poltava, Chernivtsi, Sumy, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk are involved in the project of cooperation with countries of the Danube Region. In the framework of the programme the scientists forge ties on innovative branches of science, as well as promote active student and faculty exchanges with universities in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to Mr Koval, the priority direction of the Odesa University is collaboration with universities of Germany.

“Long-term contacts between ONU and Regensburg University, active work with the universities of Dresden, Ulm, Heidelberg (Berlin). Priority areas of our work: optics, nanotechnology, virology, astrophysics,” Mr Koval added.
