ODESA, MAY 27th, 2014, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine Mr Francesco Bastagli has said that in response to recent events in Ukraine EUBAM has increased its presence at customs checkpoints on the administrative border with Transnistria, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.
Mr Bastagli noted today, 27 May, during a briefing in Odesa.
“It is worth noting that the Transnistrian segment represents a number of difficult challenges, as Ukraine and Moldova have chosen the European path. As for the physical control of the Transnistrian segment, in response to recent events taken place in Ukraine as the increasing presence of Border Guard Service of Ukraine, and other departments. The Mission has also strengthened its presence in this segment. In particular, the presence of experts of EUBAM was increased by three rail connection points on two railway crossings and 6 internal customs posts on the administrative border with Transnistria. I think we can say with confidence that the level of control is satisfactory pass on Ukraine’s border with Moldova. Both Ukraine and Moldova, for its part, adopted a series of stringent measures to control the movement of people and goods,” he said.
