Ukraine has significant transit potential, which could work to the advantage of all countries Danube

ODESA, OCTOBER 3rd, 2014, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – People's Deputy of Ukraine Sergiy Grynevetsky has noted that Ukraine has significant transit potential, which could work to the advantage of all countries Danube, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

“Late last year the European Commission approved a new transport strategy up to 2020 which provides for the creation of nine multimodal transport corridors, the Rhine-Danube corridor being one of them. Unfortunately there is no Ukraine in this corridor. In our opinion this approach can not be considered fair as our country has a great transit and transport potential at the bottom of the river which could work to the benefit of all countries of the Danube basin.

We are interested in reducing navigational risks in the shipping industry and the development of water transport as one of the most ecological one. On its part the Ukrainian parliamentarians are able to request the competent authorities to initiate negotiations with the European Commission regarding the inclusion of Ukraine in the European multimodal corridors system,” the deputy noted.
