ODESA, DECEMBER 24th, 2014, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — The Ukrainian politician Sergiy Grynevetsky believes that serious politicians of the West understand that the involvement of Ukraine in NATO could turn more serious problems than just the Cold War, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The politician noted today, 24 December, during the interview.

Answering the question about the relevance and timeliness of the Verkhovna Rada decision to cancel the non-aligned status of Ukraine, S. Grynevetsky said: “65 years ago, creating NATO as an instrument of Cold War between the West and the Soviet Union, the United States pursued the main goal — to form a military alliance against the Soviet Union and to pre-empt the emergence in Europe of independent groups as a potential competitor to the United States.

But there is one detail — the territory of the USA is not included in the NATO area of responsibility, so US unilaterally established military control over allies.

Ukraine can be interesting to NATO of its geographical location.

But so far given clear signals from Europe that we are not welcome there. Serious politicians of the West understand that the involvement of Ukraine in NATO could turn more serious problems than just the Cold War.”
