ODESSA, FEBRUARY 25th, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Odessa, Ilyichivsk and Yuzhny had handled 99% of all handled containers in the country in 2014, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of the Administration of the Ports of Ukraine noted today, 25 February.

According to the information, in 2014 sea ports of Ukraine reduced containers handling by 14.6% compared to the same period of 2013.

It should not be overlooked that the export of containers focused on several major traffic (grain, timber, coal) and less diversified than imports. Accordingly, the fluctuation of one of these cargo flows dramatically affects the overall exports.

The decline in imports associated with the devaluation of the national currency, in addition, the tense situation in the east of the country has led to a decrease in the purchasing power of 35%, which was the reduction in imports of consumer goods (about 80% of Ukraine’s imports).

Over the year, Odessa sea port handled 5 million 982 thousand 500 tons of containerized cargo or 67% of the total in the country; Ilyichivsk sea port – 2 million 287 thousand 400 tons or 25%; Yuzhny sea port — 613 thousand 880 tons, or 7%.
