ODESSA, JUNE 2nd, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Andriy Pivovarsky believes that the privatization of stevedoring activities in Ukraine will contribute to the development of competition in this market, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Andriy Pivovarsky stated today, June 2, at a press conference in Odessa.

According to him, Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine fully supports the privatization of stevedoring activities in Ukraine. The minister stressed that this is not about privatization of ports, and the privatization of state stevedoring companies.

“In most countries, the stevedoring activities are fully competitive, fully private. Exceptions may be separate terminals, where transshipment of strategic goods, such as defense of Georgia,” the head of the agency said.

According to Mr Pivovarsky, privatization of stevedoring activities in Ukraine will contribute to the development of competition in this market, increasing wages and social standards of port, as well as bring additional billions of dollars in investment.

“I’m not just talking about the income from privatization, but about investments that will be invested in the development of a terminal. Today we already see from USD 1 to 1.2 billion from foreign investors, who expect privatization announcements. This, above all, new technologies, new jobs, new taxes, additional revenues from the port fees for dredging. This is a new stage of development of the port sector in Ukraine,” he noted.
