ODESSA, NOVEMBER 17th, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Investments of private companies in the development of facilities of Odessa port exceeded USD 9.5 million for 6 months, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.
The Chief of the Administration of the Odessa Port Mikhail Sokolov noted today, November 17, during a press conference on the results of the company for 9 months 2015.
According to Sokolov, during the first half of this year, investments of private companies in the development of facilities of Odessa port amounted to more than USD 9.5 million. This planned amount of capital investment administration of the Odessa sea port at the end of 2015 should amount to UAH 199.1 million.
The head of the Port Authority also pointed out that of the five major investment projects that are implemented in the port at the moment, four related to the transshipment of bulk grain cargoes.
“This year, the port of Odessa is not formally a leader in terms of the handling of grain in Ukraine... However, we have recorded the highest percentage growth of transshipment of grain in bulk — plus a 43% over the same period last year... Today Odessa port works with the 90-percent capacity utilization for shipping grain: the capacity of 10 million tons for the year, we expect the result of 9 million tons... In a two-year term, after the development projects of grain terminals, the capacity for grain is expected to increase to 17 million tons per year. This strategic direction of the company was formed as part of the growing role of Ukraine in the global production and export of grain”, said Mr. Sokolov.
