Kherson, 05 AUGUST 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie -- In January-July, the total turnover of the stevedoring companies operating in the Port of Kherson, amounted to 2 million 62,1 thousand tons, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, August 5, in a press-service of the SE «Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority».

In a press-service reported that according to operational data, the total cargo turnover at the port for 6 months reached 2 million 62,1 thousand tons, or 96.5% compared to January-July 2015, when the turnover amounted to 2 million 136.53 thousand tons.

Liquid cargoes during this period, the port handled 80,87 thousand tons (310.3% against Jan-Jul 2015); bulk dry cargo — 1 million 587,22 thousand tons (106%); unitized cargo — 394,01 thousand tons (64.2 %).

REFERENCE: The Kherson sea port was founded in 1778 along with a shipyard and a fortress which had become a base for future Black Sea Fleet. In 1901, after 30 years associated with dredging operations, the port opened again, and Kherson became one of the most important ports exporting Ukrainian grain.

The port is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, 15 km off the estuary. The approach to the port is carried out on the fairway through Rvach river, arm Olkhovy Dnieper and the Dnieper river itself.

The port is navigable all year round.
