Odessa, 27 SEPTEMBER 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie — Traditional «German Weeks» held in Odessa — the event will last till October 18, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, September 27, in the Department of Information of the Odessa City Council.

According to the Department, the Grand opening of the «Weeks of Germany 2016» took place on Friday in the Golden hall of the Literary Museum.

In the welcoming speech Consul of Germany in Odessa Alexander Kifak said that the «German Weeks» held in many cities of Ukraine and integrate economic, social and cultural events.

«Holding the «Weeks of Germany» is intended to promote the revival of traditions brought to Odessa by German colonists, the development of cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the fields of culture, economy, education and science. And I want to thank the city authorities for their support and assistance in the organization of events», — said the consul.

«Odessa is a multicultural city that shows its tolerance, openness, sincerity, typical of the inhabitants of Odessa. Our city was built and developed together by the representatives of different nationalities. And this is our strength. Hence our unique Odessa humour, great food, gorgeous architecture and literature. I hope that tradition of carrying out national weeks will adopt other nationalities living on the territory of our city», — said the Director of the Department of culture and tourism of Odessa city Council Tatyana Markova.

After the official opening of the event, guests were presented an exhibition of photographs of Catherine Keeper «Contemporary urbanism in the German capital».

Scheduled this year's event will contribute to further dynamic development of cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the fields of culture, economy, education and science. The program focuses on all ages and interest groups.

The priority theme of «German Weeks» this year will be «City and urban space». Also on October 1-2 in our city for both students and teachers from all over Ukraine (about 120 participants) will be presented the project «Creation of energy agencies in Ukraine» realized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. All participants will be presented the achieved project results. The purpose of the meeting is to further develop specific ideas on the topic of energy efficiency in schools.

Key events of this «Graduation at the School of energy» will be the energy quest and the ceremony of awarding the winners of the project. The energy quest is scheduled for October 1, about 14:30 in the Park Shevchenko on the territory of the Green theatre, and the awards ceremony at 18:00 at the Art center of Vera Kholodnaya (Odessa film Studio, French Boulevard, 33).

In addition, in the framework of the «Weeks of Germany» a historian and the author of numerous monographs on the Black Sea Germans Elvira Pleskaya will hold a video tour of «Walking through «German Odessa». During the tour, students will learn about the contribution of the Germans in the development of the city and interesting facts of their lives.

During the «Weeks of Germany» for the citizens of Odessa and guests will be concerts of organ, chamber, jazz and vocal singing, as well as the already traditional competition for the best interpretation of German folk songs and works of German composers «Music unites us».
