The 25th anniversary of the all-Ukrainian referendum on independence celebrated in Odessa

Odessa, 01 DECEMBER 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie — In Odessa held the event for the 25th anniversary of the Ukrainian referendum on independence, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, December 01, in the Department of Information of the Odessa City Council.

The department reminded that the December 1, 1991 was held all-Ukrainian referendum to confirm the Act of Independence of Ukraine.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of this event today, December 1, in Odessa took place the laying flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

«An important step for our country was made on this day. It was made for us to go on its way, as distinct peoples, with their culture, with their opinions and vision of the future path. I wish that those who then made a choice, could look back and not regret it. Today, Ukraine has chosen the European vector of development, this date has become even more important for all Ukrainians», — said Sergey Potapsky, secretary of the Odessa City Council.

REFERENCE. December 1, 1991 was held a popular vote in approval of the Act of Independence of Ukraine. 93% of Ukrainian population voted for independence. The first to recognize the independence of Ukraine were Poland, Canada, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Bulgaria. During the first month after the referendum Ukraine admitted 57 countries in the world, and for the first year of independence — 130 states.
