The results of the V International Piano Competition in memory of Emil Gilels summarized

The results of the V International Piano Competition in memory of Emil Gilels have been summarized and the winners have been decided. The competition in memory of Emil Gilels consisted of a qualifying round, two rounds and a final solo, accompanied by a symphony orchestra.

V International Piano Competition in memory of Emil Gilels officially became an international public competition.

In 2012, the youngest participant of the competition was 15 years old.

The jury included outstanding pianists and teachers, representatives of different piano schools: Volodymyr Vinnytsky (Jury Chairman, Professor, USA), Eugeny Mogilevsky (Professor, Belgium), Olga Liforenko (Professor, Ukraine), Anna Markarova-Yakoubovitch (Professor, France-Russia), Daniel Pollack (Professor, USA), Larisa Dedova (Professor, USA) and Tatiana Fomina (Professor, Ukraine).

The winners of the V International Piano Competition in memory of Emil Gilels were awarded 27 October, 2012.

The winners of competition became 8 participants from Ukraine, Russia, and Japan: 1st prize was divided between 3 members ― the student of the Novosibirsk M. Glinka State Conservatory Lev Terskov, the student of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory Anna Tcybuleva, the graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts Shino Hidaka; 2nd prize was divided between 2 members ― the student of the Odesa National A. V. Nezhdanova Music Academy Kirill Korsunenko and the student of the Kharkov Kotliarevsky National University of Arts; 3rd prize was divided between 3 members ― the student of the Lviv National N. Lysenko Music Academy Danylo Saenko, the post-graduate of the Odesa National A. V. Nezhdanova Music Academy Aleksandr Gromovoi, the graduate of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory Rustam Muradov.

Lev Terskov was additionally awarded by one of the members of the jury, Professor Daniel Pollack (USA) for the best performance of “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This work was performed in a concert of laureates.

Special prize in memory of Professor Aleksander Bugayevsky got a young Chinese pianist Zijun Wu.

As reported before, the V International Piano Competition in memory of Emil Gilels was held through 16 ― 27 October, 2012, in Odesa.

The Awards of the Competition were the following: Grand Prix ($ 10 000, Laureate Title and a Golden medal); 1st Prize ($ 7 000, Laureate Title and a Golden medal); 2nd Prize ($ 4 000, Laureate Title and a Silver medal); 3rd Prize ($ 3 000, Laureate Title and a Bronze medal). Two diplomas ($500) are meant for the participants having entered the Finals. Also there were special prizes as well: “Best Ukrainian Pianist”, “Best Performance of the Ukrainian Author's Composition”, “To the youngest participant of the Competition” etc.

The pianists from 13 countries at the age of 16 to 30 years participated in the competition. Based on the submitted videos, committee selected 52 pianists from Belarus, China, Korea, Russia, Serbia, USA, Ukraine, France, Japan, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Georgia.
