The festive opening of the memorial to the 250 Donetsk miners from the Fascist who heroically died defending Odesa from the Fascist took place on May 6th in the settlement of Chornomorske, Odesa Region.

The 14 m high monument depicts a symbolic figure of a warrior-miner with his left hand raised and his right hand resting on a sword. There is an inscription on the monument: “At this place, at night of August 25th 1941 250 Donetsk miners managed to prevent a Fascists’ attack on Odesa and valiantly died”.

After the monument had been erected, the remnants of 42 miners killed in the theatre of war there were buried near by (only one of them was identified). Metropolitan Agathangelus said the Mass of the Resurrection.

In the future they are also planning to arrange an Alley of Glory, military units expo and a park in the 2 hectare memorial area.
