Odessa, 07 OCTOBER 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie — Following the meeting with Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Philip at the check point «Mayaki – Palanka — Udobnoye» the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced the intention to «dramatically intensify political, economic, trade, cultural, customs, border and other forms of cooperation» between the two countries, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports. // more

International Election Observers CIS-EMO have not been allowed to Moldova in Palanca (Stefan-Voda District, Moldova). CIS-EMO Information Department noted that the International Organization for election observation mission CIS-EMO (Commonwealth of the Independent States ― Election Monitoring Organization) were invited by the leadership of the Gagauz autonomy (Moldova) to monitor the referendum which will be held on February 2 in the autonomy. // more

Honorary Consulate of Latvia is planned to be opened in Odesa in 2014. Acting first deputy mayor of Odesa Kyrylo Shalamay met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Argita Daudze. During the meeting the parties discussed the possibility of the development of bilateral cooperation. A significant step towards the implementation of cooperation will be the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Odesa, scheduled for 2014. // more

The bilateral Ukrainian-American meeting of experts on export control and border security has been held in the frontier service “Odesa” at the Odesa Commercial Sea Port. The Ukrainian side was presented by the representatives of the State Border Service, headed by the Deputy Commander of the Southern Regional Office of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for International Cooperation, Lt. Col. Fedir Belinsky, senior officials of the customs point “Odesa-Port” of Yuzhny Custom and post of environmental control of the Odesa State Ecological Inspectorate. The American side was presented by the leader of the Export Control and Border Security Programme (EXBS, US State Department), Mr. James Kelly, the expert on the control of the global trade of SECURUS Strategic Trade Solutions (USA), Mr Richard Young and others. // more

19th Advisory Board Meeting (ABM) of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) has been held today, 22 November, in Odesa. Ambassador of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Ian Tombinsky chaired the meeting. The Ambassador noted the achievements of the Mission and its Moldovan and Ukrainian partners, and said EUBAM carries out as the important regional player. // more

The Stele “Massalia” in honor of the twin city Marseille will be opened in Odesa in 2013.This sculpture will be the gift from Marseille to Odesa. A few years ago, the French architect Michel Perloff, with the support of the French Cultural Centre Alliance Française, proposed to establish a symbolic stele “Massalia”. The name of composition is the old Greek name of Marseille. According to the architect, this sculptural composition will be a symbol of the same origin of the twin cities. // more

Odesa region delegation has held the presentation of economic and investment potential of the region at the meeting of The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. 2 ― 4 October, the Odesa region delegation visited Strasbourg, France, in order to present economic and investment potential of Odesa region in the framework of the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. // more

Today, Odesa Mayor Oleksiy Kostusev has held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Mr Toichi Sakata. The envoy came to Odesa for the first time. The Assembly of European Regions (AER) gathered for its 3rd Summit of the Black Sea regions bordering the Black Sea, experts and representatives of the European Union. The 70 participants unanimously recognized the importance of interregional cooperation, both from a geostrategic and environmental point of view. // more
